Actively empowering youth

KORI is a registered charity, founded in 2002 to support the development of children and young people aged 5-25 years. We have four core, connected, programmes that enable children and young people to continue to grow throughout their time in the organisation:

Home from Home: For 5 to 16 year olds. Includes: Elev8 Youth Group, Chill Zone & Youth Forum
The Haven:  For 5 to 16 year olds facing temporary or permanent exclusion in the borough of Haringey
Talent Match: For 18-24 year olds that need real and sustained support to find positive life pathways
The Vessel UK:  For 18+. Providing opportunities for international learning and volunteering in Europe and Africa

The story of our name
The name Kori was given to us by a Senegalese musician that did much to support children to grow through music. After much deliberation, he named us after the Senegalese practice of throwing ‘KORI’ (Cowere) shells to predict the future. ‘Because’, he said, ‘by supporting the children you are building the future’ .

Our purpose

We believe in supporting young people to identify their passions and talents by providing inspiring programmes, built with and for them. We place emphasis on responding to the needs and ideas that our young people express. Through partnership work we are able to provide real opportunities for leadership development, work experience and training both within and beyond the organisation.
